Can Intention Change The World?

Friday, July 31st, 2009

As a Healer I use Intention in my practice each day. You don’t have to be a Healer or Coach or Therapist or anything of the like to know and use Intention in your daily life.

I found this short (less than 2 minutes) video today on the subject of change and intention.

Take a look and listen and let me know what you think!

Can intention change the world – or your world? How do you use the power of intention? What does it mean for you?

Let’s continue the conversation below!

Reiki for the Soul

Friday, July 31st, 2009

WeighingTheSoulDuring a recent Reiki training I was asked if I distinguished between spirit and soul, and while my answer may not be held by the majority or Reiki practitioners, lo never even discussed in most Reiki classes, I do believe it has some bearing on the overall spiritual aspect of  with Reiki, so, while my answer at the time may not have been as coherent as I would’ve liked it to be, I’d like to take this opportunity to flesh it out a bit.

While I acknowledge that, in many belief systems, spirit and soul are synonymous, I find them to be quite unique. Without getting into any type of religious discussion, the bible supports me in this where (in the book of Hebrews, 4:12) there is a discussion of the splitting of spirit and soul, yet the religions that use that bible seem to have melded them together. I’ve heard it said that “we are a spirit being, we live in a body and we possess a soul” and I think that really sums it up quite nicely.

In my post on Deep Soul Reiki I believe I may have got it backwards. In that post I said:

My own understanding of the soul is derived from an interpretation (or rather a mis-interpretation) of Rene Descartes famous conclusion cognito ergo sum (I think therefore I am). While contemplating this statement I have often wondered why Rene didn’t say I am therefore I think. And what would the implications be of such a statement. Of course professional philosophers have been debating the implications of this for years and I’m sure I am not about to discover something they haven’t but I believe that by the simple fact that these two statements are quite different in understanding there is more to it than a simple observation.

While I stand by the observation, I now think that was actually the spirit I was talking about. So maybe the post should have been called Deep Spirit Reiki. The spirit is the immortal part of us, that ethereal part that is reincarnated, the real being that lives silently (for the most part) inside of us. The soul basically consists of our minds (and hence the thoughts that are produced by them) and our hearts (and, likewise, the emotions that are produced by them). I should note that the mind and heart I’m talking about here have no relationship to the physical organs of the brain and heart, they are just primitive interpretations of it.

So, while, in essence, spirituality is the quest for a greater understanding of and greater connectivity to the spirit, the soul falls more under the domain of psychology. Our personal psychology might be defined as our personal quest for a greater understanding of our minds and hearts… and this is where, I believe, Reiki plays a very important role.

While not exclusively, the second level of Reiki deals with mental and emotional healing. Since Reiki deals with the dissolving of energetic blocks and the restoration of balance in our various energy fields and systems, any mental and/or emotional Reiki can be said to be Reiki for the soul. Rather than looking at thoughts and emotions as separate things, we should look at them as two sides of the same coin, or the two halves of the yin and yang symbol even.

Being a well-balanced person can be said to be having our thoughts and emotions balanced… not only with and within themselves, but also with and to each other. Sending Reiki to our soul does just that… it breaks though the blocks preventing this balance from manifesting. So rather than doing mental healing with Reiki, or emotional healing with Reiki, we should endeavor to do soul healing, at least in part… I believe this will not only heal the mental and/or emotional imbalances, but create an overall balance between the two, i.e., in the soul… which can only be a good thing.

Does this make any sense? Please ask about any part that doesn’t and I’ll try to clarify it. Otherwise this is certainly an area that warrants further thought… which I will start doing straightaway. :-)

I’m A Geek.

Thursday, July 30th, 2009

Yup. Grade A, Government Inspected, Full-Fledged and proud of it Geek. That’s me!

How do I know it? Well, for one, I have three desktop PC’s, two Macs, a PC laptop and a Mac laptop. I LOVE computers!

Secondly, I can sit at said computers for hours on end without proper food or hydration and be happy as a Lark. Did I mention that I LOVE computers?

Anyway, with my Geekdom now professed let me see if I can make a blog point or two.

One of my favorite people on Twitter and on the internet is Chris Pirillo (@chrispirillo). Chris has been making cool things happen online since 1992 and one of his coolest sites is called -> Geeks! While tweeting away today I saw a link to a blog post on Geeks! by Eric Fox entitled Inconvenient Conveniences.

Eric basic question is – are all the conveniences we so richly have making our lives, in fact, more stressful, crazy and tiresome? He states a need that I have posted about on this blog recently – our need to slow down.

Hear him please:

People around the world are moving so fast, trying to do so much, that humanity as a whole is slowly choking itself with its own progress. We're trying to cram so much into a day, so much into our minds that we don't know how to do anything else. Children are soon going to be taught two languages from the moment they enter school, just to keep up, and some already do. What we need to learn how to do, more than anything else, is to slow down.

For too long I lived this way. Daily grind. Sixteen hour days building businesses while working jobs that I hated. Two years ago I hit the wall. No more.

Eric said it best: People are supposed to smell the flowers that they plant.

Sniff. Sniff.

Does Reiki Make you Reclusive?

Wednesday, July 29th, 2009

My personal experience says it to be true.

All the reiki pratitioners that i have come into contact starting from my initiation to this date, were, more or less somewhat reclusive in nature.

I myself was an outgoing person before i took the initiation. Reiki started a process of attitudinal and perception changes which till date i have not been able to fully comprehend.

How To Be Attuned To Reiki

Tuesday, July 28th, 2009

Reiki-attunement

I‘ve received a few questions about best practices for receiving a Reiki attunement, so I thought I’d give it some ink.

First off, I don’t draw too much of a distinction between receiving a Live Attunement and receiving a Distance Attunement. If they are done correctly (I won’t go into detail about what this entails here), they should be of equal value.

Before receiving an attunement I try to make sure my body is as clean and clear as possible. 24 hour fasts, water fasts, refraining from alcohol, chocolate and other drugs (even aspirin), getting in extra sessions of meditation, plenty of rest and do whatever else I can to ensure that I am in peak condition to receive the attunement. Staying away from other energies (power stones, crystals, essential oils, even Reiki) is also quite helpful in getting the most out of the experience.

Whenever I am receiving a live attunement, Reiju or a distance attunement my whole body turns into a giant bio-mechanical radar. For attunements in which I am familiar with the steps I can follow them as they go, but for those in which I am not familiar with the steps I attempt to remain as receptive as possible. I am scanning for tingling sensations, vibrations, changes in light or colors, sounds, tastes, smells, thoughts & emotions all simultaneously. When any of these are detected, I draw my attention to it and try to comprehend it by gauging its quality, consistency, power, frequency, stickiness, etc. and pay special attention to its ebb and flow.

For a live attunement the energetic source is much nearer, so its quality is generally richer. For distance attunements the source is much farther away, and so the energy is generally much more subtle. If my body accepts the attunement, i.e., if it sticks, then the effect will be the same whether done live or via distance transmission.

After the attunement I try to relish the immediate memories of what I felt and pay special attention to any lingering sensations. This is all done with consciousness turned off… it is completely intuitive, and if I try to logicize it, the energies will just vanish. I keep an attunement journal with all of these sensations qualified and quantified and refer to it often as I deal with energy after energy.

This is by no means the only way to receive an attunement, but it is the way I do it, and this system has served me faithfully for quite a few years. Love to hear how others of you go about it.
